FedEx delivers the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta

An item delivered to Atlanta very, very carefully by FedEx will soon travel to Los Angeles or New England in the hands of champions.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy safely completed its journey from the NFL’s New York headquarters to the Georgia World Congress Center via FedEx, ready for the winner of Super Bowl LIII between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Longtime FedEx Express courier Kent Buchanan made the handoff to the NFL, assisted by high-end technology from the Memphis logistics giant and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis. It’s the 19th consecutive year FedEx, a significant NFL sponsor, has delivered the trophy.

FedEx used a SenseAware device to track the sterling silver trophy during its trip.
SenseAware monitors factors including temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and shock detection. It also detects light, to make sure the package isn’t opened prior to its destination. That information is relayed to the customer via wireless communication.
The technology is often used for monitoring sensitive shipments like pharmaceuticals or costly items like aerospace parts.
After the SenseAware-aided shipment, the Vince Lombardi Trophy is now on display for fans to see prior to the Super Bowl’s kickoff.
“We love giving our fans the chance to see the Vince Lombardi Trophy up-close at Super Bowl Experience before it is awarded to the Super Bowl champions,” said Mary Pat Augenthaler, NFL vice president of events, in a statement. “We’re proud to have continued the tradition with FedEx this year during Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.”
